The Introduction into bowel ultrasonography is a 2-day workshop. Through the combination of theoretical and practical components, with real persons and, if possible, patients as well as an IBD ultrasonography simulator, participants can learn the basics of ultrasound application in IBD.

2:15-2:45: Precourse test (Deike Strobel)
2.45-3.15: Lecture: Physics of ultrasonography: How to use and set up an ultrasound machine? (Kerri Novak)
3:15-3:45: Lecture: How does the bowel look like in ultrasonography? Anatomy and ultrasound language of the bowel. How to perform an intestinal ultrasound? (Christoph F. Dietrich)
3:45-4:45: Hands On ultrasonography of healthy volunteers: optimize settings, identify normal bowel anatomy, use of Doppler, learn how to document findings.
5:00-5:30; Lecture: Mural IBD ultrasound findings: what to look for and how to document (Kim Nylund)
5:30-6:00; Lecture: Extramural IBD ultrasound findings: what to look for and how to document (Deike Strobel)
6.00-7:00: Hands On Part 2: Hands-on-training ultrasonography using Schallware models: Identify mural and extramural pathology in IBD patients
November 5th 2016:

9.00-9:30: Lecture: Complications of IBD, e.g. strictures, fistulas, abscess: tricks for optimization including CEUS and SICUS (Emma Calabrese)
9:30-10:00: Lecture: Standardization of documentation (Kerri Novak)
10.00-11:00: Hands On Part 3: Hands-on-training ultrasonography in real IBD patients under expert tutor guidance / supervision
11.30-12:00: Postoperative findings in Crohn´s disease (Giovanni Maconi)
12:00-1.30: Hands On Part 4: Hands-on-training ultrasonography in real IBD patients under expert tutor guidance / supervision and Schallware models.
1.30-2.00: Lunch 2.00-2.30: Perianal ultrasound (Giovanni Maconi)
2.30-4.30: Hands On Part 5: Non-IBD bowel disease patients and video-session
4.30-5:00; Lecture: When to use intestinal ultrasonography in ulcerative colitis (Christian Maaser)
5:00-5:30; Lecture: When to use intestinal ultrasonography in Crohn´s disease (Torsten Kucharzik)

9:00-10:00: Round table (all expert tutors incl. Rune Wilkens via Skype) Training, Competence and Quality. Organization of ultrasound-IBD unit, establishing competence and quality assurance. / How to organize training during part 2? How to start bowel ultrasonography after returning home?
10:00-10:30 Post course test (Deike Strobel)
10:30-11:30: Practical exam (all expert tutors)
